Dr. Muahammad
Aslam Khan from Pakistan joined as Director of
SAARC Human Resource Development Centre (SHRDC)
on 21 September 2004. Prior to his joining, Dr.
Khan was serving as Chief, Poverty Alleviation Section,
Planning Commission, Government of Pakistan. He
also served at various capacities in the Planning
Commission, including Chief, Fiscal and Monetary
Section. Dr. Khan holds a PhD in economics from
the Australian National University, and Master degree
in Developmen Economics and Development Administration
from USA and Australia and Postgraduate Diplomas
in Development Economics from Strathclyde University,
Glassgow, UK and Vanderbilt University, Nashville,
Tennessee, USA. He also attended various courses,
including course on Human Resource Development,
Oxford University, England and IMF Financial Management
Course, and use of Microcomputers in Development,
International Technical Training Institute, San
Francisco, USA and workshops on Poverty Reduction
Strategy, IMF, Washington, DC and Alternative Development
Paradigms and Poverty Reduction, Asian Development
Bank Institute, Tokyo. He has more than 50 publications
including research reports, manuals;development
plans for the backward regions and articles to his
credit in areas of poverty alleviation, social sectors
development, and public finance. His areas of specialization
include: poverty alleviation, social sector development
and public sector expenditure analysis.
Dr (Mrs) Jhan Mohamed Khan Beebi Hajarjhan
Deputy Director
Dr. (Mrs.) Jhan Mohamed Khan Beebi Hajarjhan from Sri Lanka has joined the SHRDC as Deputy Director on 4th January 2010. Before joining the SHRDC, Dr. JMKB Hajarjhan was serving as the Director (Peace Education) in the Ministry of Education, Sri Lanka. Prior to this, she has served the Ministry of Education in different positions including as Deputy Director and Assistant Director in the Ministry of Education. She also served as Lecturer in Teachers Training College in Western Provinces in Sri Lanka. Dr. Hajarjhan started her carrier as Secondary School Teacher and served several Secondary and Higher Secondary schools in Sri Lanka.
Dr. JMKB Hajarjhan obtained her Doctorate in Education and MSc in Education Management from United Kingdom. She also holds three Post Graduate Diplomas - in Education, in Education Management and Master of Education. She has been trained in many countries including UK, Germany, India, Australia, Singapore, Korea, Bangkok, Sweden, and Indonesia. Her main research area includes Education Policy and Quality Development.
She initiated the 'National Policy' on Social Cohesion and Peace Education in Sri Lanka which was disseminated in the education sectors in several countries like Turkey, Germany, Malaysia, South Africa and Indonesia. And she also worked as secretary of the committee appointed by His Excellency the President of Sri Lanka for preparing a Report on 'Issues of Muslim's Education in Sri Lanka'. She published a book titled 'Human Security and Peace for the teachers in Sri Lanka’. She has also written a number of articles on teachers’ education. She has also presented several conference papers on peace education as well as on child friendly class room. She contributed a lot to improve the skills of teachers and divisional directors serving in the Sri Lankan Education system.
